Volunteer Opportunities

West Valley City urges residents and organizations to take pride in our community. The City is often approached with requests for ideas for various community service projects and Eagle Scout projects. The City offers the following suggestions for those who are seeking volunteer opportunities.

If you would like to be notified via e-mail about City service projects, please join the Volunteer Opportunities Notify Me list. An e-mail will be sent when new projects are posted.

Rocky Mountain Care Foundation
Rocky Mountain Care Foundation is a nonprofit organization that services Rocky Mountain Care and is looking for volunteers to help in West Valley City. Our volunteers provide respite care, friendly visits, and conversation to terminally ill patients who are on our hospice services. We also have a community outreach volunteer program, helping with friendly visits, running errands, light housework, yard work, and other needs. We believe that people have the right to maintain their independence and dignity throughout their life. Each individual who receives our services, receives dignity and skillfully managed care, with the option of receiving compassionate service from our dedicated volunteers.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please contact Christine at 801-397-4904 for more information.  Please also visit our website at www.rockymountaincarefoundation.org.  *Training, background check, and TB test required- all provided by us.

Community Garden or Park

Resident Jeanne Moody has volunteered to provide 1/2 acre of land to be used as a community garden or park. If you are interested in volunteering or participating in the project, please contact Jeanne Moody at (801) 388-9251.

City Projects
Graffiti Cleanup Project
West Valley City is looking for boy scouts who are looking to complete their Eagle Scout project or other groups looking to perform community service. The City has many walls and fences along main streets and other thoroughfares that are in need of repainting to remove graffiti or to unify the wall color. The City will provide the paint, but not the painting tools. It is up to the group(s) to gain access to painting supplies.

Want to help?
If you are interested in finding out more about the project(s) or where in the City opportunities exist currently, please contact the West Valley City Public Relations Manager at (801) 965-5833.

Eagle Scout Projects
West Valley City supports the Boy Scouts of America program and tries to provide as much help as possible to scouts seeking the rank of Eagle. As per the Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Workbook, the purpose of the service project is for the scout to demonstrate skills in leadership, planning and carrying out the project.

To help scouts demonstrate leadership and planning skills, the City encourages scouts to find or create a project within the community. After identifying a project, the scout (not the parents or scout leader) should contact the City to see what assistance the City can provide or for approval of the project idea.

Potential Eagle Scout service projects will be listed above if the opportunity arises under “City Projects.” If you see a need in the community and would like to verify if the idea would be acceptable for an Eagle Scout service project for the City, please contact the Public Relations Manager at (801) 965-5833.

Community Service Hours
The City occasionally needs help cleaning up parks, graffiti, detention basins or other projects that may not meet the hour requirements for an Eagle Scout service project. For those interested in performing community service hours, please contact the Public Relations Manager at (801) 965-5833.
